From the Designer
Hi, I’m Megan, a lighting designer here at Light My Bricks. As someone who loves colour and knows the story of Wicked inside out, I was thrilled to bring this vibrant LEGO® set to life with lights. The Emerald City Wall Art is already such a bright and imaginative build, but with carefully placed DIY components, I was able to enhance its theatrical feel and really make it glow. This one was a joy to design—the end result is stunning, and it looks beautiful whether mounted on a wall or displayed among the rest of your LEGO® collection.
Lighting Inspiration
The goal with this design was to balance warm theatrical tones with pops of magical colour, just like a stage production of Wicked or the classic Wizard of Oz film.
At the very top of the frame, two Large Warm White Astro Spotlights cast a soft, daylight glow across the sky, setting the entire scene with natural brightness. The Emerald City itself is illuminated with three Regular Light Green Astro Lights mounted discreetly between its towers, giving it a radiant inner glow that immediately catches the eye.
On either side of the frame, colour accents add charm and depth. Regular Pink Astro Lights highlight the flowers, while another is mounted inside Glinda’s bubble, creating a magical pink glow from within. To enhance this effect, a Pink Astro Spotlight also shines across the outside of the bubble and down into Munchkinland, tying the whole lower section together in a soft fairytale hue.
A Large Warm White Astro Spotlight positioned in the bottom right corner illuminates the “Wicked” sign and the Yellow Brick Road. Another Large Warm White Astro Light hides inside the minifigure display cavity, ensuring every character on the stage is clearly visible. Finally, behind Elphaba’s platform, a Regular Light Green Astro Light creates a subtle but powerful backlit aura, giving her a dramatic, stage-worthy presence.
The result is a display that feels theatrical, magical, and full of life—every landmark, symbol, and character enhanced with light in a way that celebrates the world of Oz.
Feature Highlights
Glinda’s Bubble
One of the most magical features in this design is Glinda’s glowing bubble. By placing a pink light inside the bubble, it shines from within, capturing her otherworldly charm. The additional pink spotlight aimed across the bubble enhances this effect, ensuring the glow feels radiant from every angle. Together, they transform Glinda’s entrance into a true showstopper.
The Emerald City Glow
Of course, the heart of the build is Emerald City itself. Three green Astro Lights are hidden within its towers, giving the city a striking, luminous presence. This inner glow captures the fantastical look of the Emerald City and makes it stand out as the centrepiece of the entire model. Mounted seamlessly, the lights disappear into the build, leaving only the magical glow to define the skyline.
