Some parts a bit too bright, but I fixed it!
Another fine light kit from Light My Bricks. Fast delivery, nice packaging, good quality parts and easy to understand instructions.
Like most light kits, you really need to take your time installing them, because some parts can be a little bit fiddly to get them right. Nothing too hard though, and again this was a fun little project.
The overall design of this kit is quite good, there’s a nice amount of LED’s which highlight the best parts of the building, and the wires are well hidden.
But unfortunately, there’s quite a big negative too. What I really didn’t like was the very harsh and blinding light coming from the spotlights on the ground and on the front side of the building. The LED’s on these light kits are typically very bright, and I have previously always added a LMB dimmer board to the mix to brighten them down, so they act more as mood lights in an already dimly lit room. But still, I wasn’t statisfied with just that. The aforementioned LED’s are not hidden or diffused in any way, so you look straight at them, which is not very pleasant, and they also attract too much attention, instead of accenting the building.
But it’s always fun to search for a solution, and after experimenting with various Lego parts, I found the perfect fix: I added 4 white 2x2 plates to diffuse and dim the bottom spotlights, and 4 dark bluish gray 1x1 technic liftarm spacers for the spotlights on the front side of the building, which actually makes them real uplighters. Works great, and…
